Rebates

Colorado EV Charger and Electrical Rebates

The cost of adding a Level 2 charger at home is rarely what people expect. Between utility programs and a few local incentives, a real chunk of the wiring and electrical work can come back to you. What you qualify for depends on who sends your power bill, your address, the size of the job, and in some cases your household income.

We keep track of these programs so you don’t have to read the fine print on three different utility websites. Here’s how the main ones work right now.

Xcel Energy customers

If Xcel powers your home, there’s a home wiring rebate tied to installing a Level 2 charger and the circuit that feeds it.

Almost every residential Xcel customer starts at the $500 standard rebate. Some addresses qualify for more. Homes inside a Colorado Disproportionately Impacted Community, or households with a member of a federally recognized Tribe, can reach $800 without qualifying on income. Income-qualified households can receive up to $2,300, capped by what the project actually costs. That higher tier matters most on jobs with long wire runs or a panel that needs attention.

Here’s something a lot of people miss: you don’t have to install a ChargePoint to get the one-time wiring rebate. ChargePoint HomeFlex is Xcel’s preferred charger and unlocks every rebate and ongoing incentive, but a qualifying vehicle, an EV-ready circuit, other Level 2 chargers, and even a NEMA 14-50 outlet for Level 1 charging can still qualify you for that one-time money. What those alternatives won’t get you is the recurring payments: the $50 a year through Optimize Your Charge for off-peak charging, and another $200 a year through Charging Perks.
A licensed electrician has to do the qualifying work, and Xcel folds in managed charging participation for many applicants. One more thing worth knowing: if you move, your new Xcel household qualifies again, rentals included, and that holds for income-qualifying households too. Additional chargers and qualified vehicles in the same home can open up more rebates as well.

United Power members

United Power runs one of the stronger packages in our area, mainly because you can stack a wiring rebate and a panel rebate on the same project.

The wiring side pays up to $500 on its own, no program enrollment required. Smaller invoices under $1,200 are capped at the invoice amount or $250, whichever fits. Projects at $1,200 or more can reach the full $500. Enroll in the United EV program and those numbers grow: $500 on smaller qualifying jobs and up to $1,000 on the larger ones. United EV comes with its own charger and install rules, so confirm eligibility before the work is done rather than after.

Then there’s the panel. If your project needs more capacity, United Power offers a separate $500 rebate for replacing your main panel or adding a subpanel to support charging. Shuffling breakers or adding tandems doesn’t count. Because the panel rebate sits apart from the wiring rebate, a member enrolled in United EV with a qualifying charger and a qualifying panel upgrade could see up to $1,500 total, subject to costs, approval, and funding. United Power lists this program as running through June 30, 2027, or until the money runs out.

Town of Erie

Live in Erie? You may have a rebate on top of your utility’s program. For 2026, the town offers $250 for a Level 2 or Level 3 charger installed by a licensed electrician. You’ll need an active Town of Erie utility account, and the equipment has to be purchased and installed within the 2026 program year. Funding is limited and first come, first served.

Erie is served by both Xcel and United Power, so some homeowners here end up eligible for a town rebate and a utility rebate at the same time. We’ll check both against your address before you count on a combined number.

Can you combine rebates?

Sometimes, yes. A utility rebate plus a city or town incentive can work together, and Erie is the clearest example. But every program writes its own rules on eligible costs, equipment, install dates, and stacking. Rather than assume every advertised dollar applies to you, we verify the exact address and project first.

Applying, made simpler

The paperwork trips people up more than the wiring does. For Xcel, you’ll generally apply for Optimize Your Charge, submit the home wiring rebate inside your Xcel My Account, and enroll in Charging Perks for the extra annual incentive. Keep your paid invoice and charger serial number handy, since both programs ask for them.

Heads up if your charger isn’t on Xcel’s approved list: you may get an email saying you’re not eligible for Optimize Your Charge. That only refers to the ongoing $50 annual rebate, not the one-time wiring rebate. Finish the application anyway. Income verification runs through CLEAResult, Xcel’s partner, at 1-800-219-6500, and you can reach Xcel’s EV rebate team at evrebates@xcelenergy.com if something in the process gets confusing.

There’s also a nice option we can point you to. We’re partnered with a Denver nonprofit, Women Who Charge, that can supply a free Level 2 charger for qualifying installs. If that sounds like a fit, send us the application and we’ll take it from there.

Let ADC Electric handle the guesswork

You don’t need to memorize three utility programs before you start. Tell us your address, your electric provider, and what you’re planning, whether that’s a straightforward charger install, a new circuit, a subpanel, or a full service upgrade. We’ll map out the electrical requirements, flag the rebates that likely apply, and hand over the documentation the programs ask for, so you see the real cost before and after incentives.

Reach out to ADC Electric for an EV charger estimate, and we’ll tell you what your project could actually run once the rebates come back.

Rebate amounts, eligibility, and funding are set by each utility, city, or program administrator and can change without notice. ADC Electric can’t guarantee approval of any third-party rebate, so we confirm eligibility before work begins.
