EV Charger Installation in Thornton, CO

Charging at home should be the easy part of owning an electric vehicle. At ADC Electric, we install Level 2 home charging stations across Thornton and the surrounding Colorado communities, and we have been at it since 2021. We are not a sales company. We are a service team that sits down with you, looks at your panel and your driving habits, and helps you land on the setup that actually fits your home. No pressure, no padded quote.

Why homeowners upgrade to a Level 2 charger

Most EVs ship with a Level 1 cord that plugs into a regular wall outlet. It works, technically. The catch is speed. A standard 120-volt outlet might add three to five miles of range an hour, so an overnight charge often falls short after a full day of driving. A Level 2 station runs on 240 volts, the same type of circuit your dryer or oven uses, and it changes the whole equation. You plug in when you get home, and you wake up to a full battery. For a two-EV household, a long commute, or Colorado winters that quietly drain range, that difference is the entire reason to make the switch.

How to choose the right home charger

There is no single “best” charger, only the one that matches your car, your panel, and how you drive. Here is how we help clients think it through.

Amperage matters most. Chargers range from around 16 amps up past 48, and a higher-amp unit charges faster, but only if your electrical panel can carry the load. We run a load calculation first so you buy the right size instead of the biggest box on the shelf.

Hardwired or plug-in is the next call. Hardwired units tend to be sturdier and are often required at higher amperage, while a plug-in model gives you flexibility if you ever move. Both are solid when the install is done correctly.

Smart features are worth a look if saving money matters to you. Many stations connect to Wi-Fi, so you can schedule charging for off-peak hours, track your energy use, and tap into utility rate programs.

Then there are the Colorado details. Our winters are real, so look for a unit rated for low temperatures, and if it is going in the garage or outdoors, make sure the enclosure is built for it. Cable length counts too. A cord that barely reaches your parking spot becomes a daily annoyance, so we plan the mount around where you actually park.

Bring us the charger you already bought, or let us point you toward reliable options in your budget. Either way, we install units for every major EV brand.

What to expect when we install

Every project starts with a free, no-pressure assessment. We check your panel, measure the run to your parking spot, and walk through your options and any rebates you qualify for. From there we pull the permits, upgrade your panel if the load calls for it, and install the charger to National Electrical Code standards with proper grounding and circuit protection. Before we pack up, we test everything, help you set up the app, and make sure you know how your new station runs. Permitting, installation, inspection: we handle all of it.

Rebates and incentives, handled for you

One of the biggest reasons people call us is that we take the guesswork out of rebates. ADC Electric is a Colorado Energy Office HEAR Contractor, a Qmerit Certified Service Provider, and an Xcel Energy Gold Star EV Electrician, so we know these programs from the inside. Incentives shift often, and what you qualify for depends on your utility and your home, so we tell you what is currently on the table and apply it directly to your project. For a lot of our clients, that support brings the out-of-pocket cost way down, sometimes to very little up front.

Why homeowners choose ADC Electric

We specialize. EV chargers, panel upgrades, and whole-home electrification are what we do every day, not a side gig. That focus shows up in faster installs, cleaner work, and electricians who know these systems cold. Our team is licensed and certified, and honestly, our reviews say it better than we can: careful wire routing through finished basements, same-day visits, straight quotes, and installers who stick around to help set up your charging app. We have been Colorado's electrification team since 2021, and we are planning on being here a long time.

How long does a home EV charger installation take?

Most straightforward installs wrap up in a few hours. If your panel needs an upgrade or the wiring run is long or tricky, it can take longer, and we will tell you that up front after the assessment.

Sometimes. Older or fully loaded panels may not have room for a new 240-volt circuit. We run a load calculation during the assessment, so you know before any work starts, not after.
Can the charger go in my garage or outside?
Both work. Indoor installs are common, and for outdoor mounts we use weather-rated equipment built for Colorado conditions.

It depends on your charger, your panel, and the length of the wiring run, which is why we give you a clear quote after the free assessment. We also apply any rebates you qualify for to bring the total down.

All of them. We install Level 2 stations for every major electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle on the road.

We would steer you away from it. A 240-volt circuit involves permits, code requirements, and real safety risk if it is done wrong. Professional installation also protects your equipment warranty and your rebate eligibility.
